The look Cue chose

Sherbet plots

Flat sherbet fields of pink, tangerine, mint and lilac, with deep green-ink type set loud and condensed like a seed-packet poster

Type
Anton and Familjen Grotesk
Colours
mintpinkinkmosstangerinelilaccream
Motion
Snappy and physical, like cards slapped on a table. Ease out quart, 0.6 to 0.9s. Fields arrive as flat wipes, display type rises from a mask by character, illustrations stack up from the ground in layers. Type never wobbles or bounces; at most one slow sway in view.
Transitions
Each new section changes the field colour with a wipe or push in the direction of the story, 0.7s. Fade only into the closing ask. Never the same transition twice in a row.

  1. 1

    Cover

    Opens with a fade

I'm here to talk about Plotline. We help community gardens share their plots and their tools. We're already running in Portland, and I'll show you what that looks like.

  2. 2

    The problem

    Enters with a push

Walk into almost any community garden shed and you will find this board. A sign-up sheet with names crossed out, a plot map in pencil, and a note asking who has the wheelbarrow. Then the rest happens in group email threads that nobody can keep up with. People want to share. The tools they have for it are paper and reply-all.

  3. 3

    How it works

    Enters with a wipe

Plotline puts the plots and the shed in one place, so everyone can see who has what. When a plot changes hands, it shows. The shed works the same way. Tools go out and come back, and the list shows where each one is. No more paper, and no more asking around.

  4. 4

    Portland gardens

    Enters with a slide over

Today twenty-two gardens in Portland use Plotline. They're spread all over the city, on both sides of the river. Each marker on this map is one of them. Every one is real and running on Plotline right now.

  5. 5

    Members

    Enters with a dissolve

Gardens don't join alone. Each one brings its members with it. Across those 22 gardens, that's 1,900 people on Plotline. Every hat on this grid is one of them.

  6. 6

    Why it works

    Enters with a split

None of this asks people to change. Gardeners already lend each other tools and swap plots. What's missing is an easy way to keep track of who has what. That's the part Plotline does.

  7. 7

    The price

    Enters with a push

Here is how we make money. Plotline costs each member four dollars a month. It is priced per member, not per garden. So every new member in a garden adds to our revenue.

  8. 8

    The math

    Enters with a zoom through

Now the plain math. If every one of our 1,900 members paid four dollars, that is 91,200 dollars a year. That is 7,600 dollars monthly. This is not our revenue today. It is what the gardens we already have are worth at full price.

  9. 9

    How it grows

    Enters with a wipe

Plotline grows one garden at a time. When a garden joins, all of its members come with it. That is 22 gardens and 1,900 members, in portland today. Community gardens are in nearly every big city in the country. So the next step is more neighbourhoods, and then other cities.

  10. 10

    The ask

    Enters with a fade

We're raising seven hundred and fifty thousand dollars, pre-seed, to bring Plotline to more gardens. Today we have 22 gardens and 1,900 members in Portland. Each member is four dollars a month. That is real demand in one city, and it is ready to grow. I'm happy to walk you through the plan.
